Fleurs won the Most Entertaining award at Tulips and Pansies! And our friend Golf at Tantawan Bloom won Most Beautiful! Here is a picture of our hat (and bustle) that we found on the web, more photos to come. And here is a slideshow of the event from NBC.
Below is a picture of me with the model, getting ready to walk. I have to tell you, this model was AMAZING! She was so thin, and this headdress was about 25 pounds, as was the bustle. Imagine walking around, in 4 inch heels, with 25 pounds of potatoes on your head AND tied to your backside, dancing around and shaking it! Well, she did! And she looked absolutely FABULOUS!! Go Karen!

Karen Mordechai is an incredible photographer for weddings and events, and it is the rare photographer who can also capture flowers! Check out these stills she did for the fantasy shower. The amazing ladies at Always a Bridesmaid hosted this lovely party. And you can see the adorable cake, which looks like gift wrapped boxes, made by Mark Joseph Cakes!

Fleurs will be participating in a wonderful event called Tulips and Pansies next week, hosted by the very wonderful Village Care of New York. They assist seniors living with HIV/AIDS. This should be absolutely fabulous! A floral designer is paired with a fashion designer, and the florist has to make a hat of flowers. The only requirement is that the hat be under 4 feet tall! There are some big names here, including Preston Bailey- wish us luck! You can see a video of last year’s event here. I will be working with a new and up and coming designer, saraclaireandesther.com- they make gorgeous clothes with vintage items!

Each week, I deliver an arrangement to Ceci, and I get to see their incredible and incredibly creative invitations! I have a posting to write about their invitations for next week. But in the mean time, this week flower-wise, I went very simple- little ranunculus buds in groovy vases. The green things are onions! Good for a bar, or cocktail arrangement.

This past weekend fleurs did a lovey event at Bridgewaters- the view there is fantastic! I haven’t seen the official photos yet, but here is a shot of the bouquets in the bridal suite. For the bridesmaids, we did green and white, with touches of black scabiosa for some depth, and for the bride, we went all pink!! Peonies, garden roses, pink scabiosa, ranunculus, and bush ivy berries for a touch of color contrast.

The Knot did a “Splurge Vs. Save” segment this morning, and fleurs was asked to provide florals, it was really fun! We did the bouquets, the cake flowers (the bright pink ones), and the arrangement in the back! http://www.mandjshow.com/videos/tie-the-knot-on-a-budget/ Fleurs was also on the same show the week before- The Knot did a fashion show, and we provided the bouquets for the models- 4 different styles, all sweet and lovely. http://www.mandjshow.com/videos/bridal-looks-for-less/

Fleurs is happy to be working with the amazing ladies at Always a Bridesmaid for an event they are hosting at the fabulous Morgan’s Hotel (penthouse suite, sipping champagne, ah!!!) I consider this a public service- they are helping us find ways to make bridal showers really cool and fun. And better still, the hostesses have asked Agent Provocateur, perhaps the sexiest lingerie designers around, to be present (and perhaps give us some presents!) Another partner is the absolutely lovely Melangerie! I will be doing some bouquet teaching demos. Tickets are $25, but if you click the link, entry is free (code is FLEURS).
Here is what Xochitl wrote about the event:
It’s a big event for a bride: you have a vision, but so little control! So, this is our way for your to drop your bridesmaids A BIG HINT and have A LOT OF FUN! Ah, the ever elusive anemone! The anemone seems to have most of us in its grip, much as my crackberry, ahem, I mean blackberry, has a hold of me. It is with good reason, it is a gorgeous flower! One of my lovely readers wants it for her wedding in October, and asked me if it was possible to get it then. My answer to her is twofold- the simple answer is no, it is not in season, but hopefully her florist can find it for her if she is lucky and absolutely must have it.
The 2nd answer is much more complicated- I try to always caution brides from focusing too much on one flower, but rather have them think more about what they want their guests to feel when they walk in the room. With bunches of anemones, most people won’t be inspecting the actual flower, but they will see black dots with white petals. Ms. October is going for elegant, yet contemporary, using black and white damask (fabulous choice!!) What communicates this feel is not only the flower itself, but also the container, the cloth, and the room. That said, you will have the same effect with white flowers with dark circle dot flowers, in a lovely container, which will have the same read. For Ms. October, I would recommend dahlias- they are some of my favorites! They are lush and creamy. And for the black “dot”- I absolutely adore the black scabiosa flower. The flower itself is about the size of a quarter.
The last thing you want on your wedding is flowers that are brown, or too small, or not perfect- I recommend only working with what is in season. You have chosen this magical date, let nature provide.
